Proposal For Bicycles For Skills Training Initiative For People Living With Hiv/Aids In The Rural Communities

Background Information On The Organization

Introduction
The Hohoe AIDS Support Association (HASA) is non-religious and non-governmental organization formally registered in 2004 under the companies’ code 179. Its membership is made up of men, women and children living and affected by HIV/AIDS. Currently HASA has 35 members located within the Hohoe District of the Volta Region.

HASA is governed by an Executive Council comprising of the President, Vice president, Secretary, Vice Secretary, Treasurer, Organizer and two members. It has 5 members Board of Directors.

The mission
HASA exists to give support to all those infected with and affected by HIV by providing opportunities to live a healthier life, to create income and to advocate against stigma and discrimination against persons living with and affected by HIV/AIDS menace.

Our Vision
To become a nationally recognized resource for those infected and affected with HIV, where people living with HIV/AIDS can come for healthcare, food, shelter, moral support, education, income generating activities and to contribute to national development.

 
Area/Target Population

The project targets People Living with HIV (PLHIV) as well as those affected by HIV. HASA has partner organizations such as TASA, KASA, and YADAH DAH ALLAH Muslim Women Association who are all PLHIV organizations based in rural communities in Ghana. These bicycles will be distributed to members of these organizations as well as other PLHIV support groups in the, Aflao, Kadjebi, Mankessim and Obuasi districts in Ghana. The aim is to assist members in transporting themselves to common areas on monthly basis to access food and medical supports. Most of the children of members of these organizations and groups; especially those in the rural areas have difficulty in accessing basic schools because of the distance. These bicycles which will not require nothing more than maintenance, will enable them be regular and punctual to school.

 
How The New Bicycles Will Be Distributed

The project will provide bicycles to:

  • People living with HIV (PLHIV). This will make communing easy and less expensive.
  • Children of infected people, orphans and vulnerable children in these communities.
  • Partner organizations in supporting people living with HIV in Ghana Baanuye Mercy Group, Yaddah Dah Allah Muslim Women Association all in Accra, Ketu Friends (K-FIN) in Aflao, Kadjebi AIDS Support Association (HASA), etc.
  • Some of the bicycles will be given to the street youth project for interested members of HASA to enroll under the project.


Aside the use of the bicycles by the beneficiaries, some of the bicycles will be made available at all the centers for hiring to the community members. The money realized will be used to provide food ration, multivitamins and food supplements for the members.

 
Project Objectives

  • To provide cheaper means of transport to PLHIV.
  • To strengthen partnership among support groups.
  • To provide bicycles to school going children so as to increase school enrolment and reduce distance.
  • To provide people living with HIV/AIDS and orphans with food supplements and drugs.
  • To bring HIV/AIDS education and awareness to the rural communities of Ghana.

     

Project Monitoring

The project manager and the head of programs would perform internal monitoring on project activities. They would ensure that project activities are carried out as expected. Regular reports with pictures on the project will be sent to the donor regularly.
